Welcome to
my journey
Welcome! My name is Dr. Heather Weidner, DAc LAc DiplAC. I started ALOHA Whole Health Acupuncture in 2025. However, this is not where my journey began and it won’t be where it ends. I want to use my skills and knowledge to help as many people as I can to find a better path along their own journey to health and harmony. Please take a moment and reflect with me on some of the stops I’ve made along the way.

Shanghai Hospital University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (September 2024)
In September of 2024 I had the amazing opportunity to go Shanghai, China to practice acupuncture first-hand in a well-known hospital. I treated patients and directly observed how acupuncture can be used in many different medical settings. Getting the opportunity to see how China integrates TCM in their mainstream medical practice along with additional modalities was phenomenal. I interacted with two groups of people: the in-patients and out-patients. In-patients stayed at the hospital, meaning I was able to follow and treat the same people up to 10 days in a row. Following these patients, we treated them with acupuncture each day and I could personally see how the medicine accelerated their healing, which was such a unique experience. The out-patient unit had people that would come from around the city to receive treatment. They happily shared their stories with the help of the many doctors who could translate. Additionally, the doctors shared amazing research and lectures with us each day, helped us learn more about their clinical experience, and we were able to share with each other different techniques in our own practices. The site-seeing and wonderful people I meet could not be replaced, but most excitingly I left with a stronger belief in my ability to use acupuncture to improve my community.
Bread for the City
Bread for the City is an organization helping Washington, DC residents living with low income to participate fully in directing the future of their community. They provide for physical needs (food, clothing, medical care) as well as legal and social services. In 2024, Bread for the city partnered with my school—VUIM—to provide free acupuncture services. I was lucky enough to participate immediately in this program, lending my skills to serve the community. I met so many wonderful people and was thrilled to see them when they returned with smiles, telling me how much their quality of life had improved after receiving acupuncture treatment.
Fentanyl Awareness - Warrenton
The current fentanyl epidemic has become a severe public health crisis, with overdose deaths rising sharply due to the drug's potency. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is often mixed with other substances, leading to accidental overdoses. Its widespread availability and low cost have lead to its increased use in illicit drugs. I believe one of the best ways to fight against this drug invading our communities is through education. That is why I participate in awareness campaigns such as the one held in the town of Warrenton, Va in 2024. VUIM, as well as other pro-community groups, engaged members of the community to raise awareness of the prevalence and dangers of fentanyl. I was also able to educate people on the benefits of acupuncture as a holistic way of addressing substance addiction.
INOVA Schar Cancer Center
Cancer is a disease we are all unfortunately very aware of. Whether it is ourselves, a loved one, or a member of our community, most of us have been touched by cancer in some way. The Schar Center, operating within the INOVA heathcare system, recognizes this. The Schar center seeks to provide treatment not only to those who personally have cancer, but to provide treatment and care to everyone affected by it. I have been involved in efforts within the Schar center to expand acupuncture availability to patients as well as their families and caregivers. Acupuncture provides so many benefits to health and well-being including mental health. Nothing about navigating cancer treatment is easy, but acupuncture has been able to improve the lives of so many that I am truly blessed to be part of this program.
